Next Notts County Manager Odds: New Name In The Mix For Magpies Role

Tobias Solberg remains the favourite on betting sites to be appointed Notts County manager, but old and new names have emerged as potential candidates.
Little-known Swede Solberg has drifted slightly in the odds as a possible replacement for Stuart Maynard.
Maynard was sacked after the Magpies failed to secure promotion via the play-offs.
Maynard was confident of keeping his job, but the club’s owners Chris and Alex Reedtz had different ideas and gave him his marching orders after just five months in charge following one win in their final eight matches.
The Danish brothers revealed more than two weeks ago that “work is well under way” to find Maynard’s successor, but an announcement has yet to be made.
Let’s take a look at those in the running and the next Notts County manager odds.
Swede Dreams For Solberg?
Not much is known about Solberg beyond the fact he led Degerfors to the Allsvenskan with a second-placed finish in 2020, alongside co-manager Andreas Holmberg - the club's first promotion to the top flight since 1997.
The club remained in the Swedish top flight for three seasons, but with the club facing relegation in 2023, it was announced that the pair would no longer continue in their roles, although Solberg stayed with the club as head coach of the U19 team.
Notts County's owners may decide on a fresh approach following their recent play-off disappointment and could turn to fellow Scandinavian Solberg, who is open to new opportunities after his lengthy association with Degefors as both assistant manager and head coach ended.
Solberg was Evens on football betting sites earlier in the week, but his odds have lengthened slightly to 5/4.

Des Buckingham | 2/1 | 33.3% |
Leam Richardson | 3/1 | 25% |
Joao Alves | 3/1 | 25% |
Tom Shaw | 3/1 | 25% |
Luke Williams | 5/1 | 16.7% |

Buckingham Next In Line
Des Buckingham was a 12/1 outsider last week, down from 25/1, but he is now the 2/1 second co-favourite for the Notts County job.
Buckingham steered Oxford into the Championship via the League One play-offs in the 2023/24 season, but was cruelly shown the door in mid-December after 13 months in charge.
Many fans felt the former New Zealand U23 coach wasn’t given enough time to overcome a patchy run of form in the second tier which saw Oxford drop to within a point of the relegation zone.
Buckingham is also the favourite for the Cardiff job, so he seems to be a man in demand.
Hinshelwood Back In The Frame
The odds on York manager Adam Hinshelwood filling the Magpies vacancy continue to fluctuate, but for now he finds himself second favourite with Buckingham at 2/1.
The Minstermen finished runners-up to Barnet with 96 points in the National League, but lost to Oldham in the semi-finals of the play-offs.
Hinshelwood was immediately linked with the job at Meadow Lane and was installed as favourite at one point, but his odds soon started to drift until they hit 33/1 and he was no longer viewed as a candidate.
However, he is once again one of the frontrunners to take the reins at Notts County, whose fans would appreciate the attractive way his teams play.
The former Worthing boss still has a year left to run on his contract and is thought to be exploring his options, but as yet he remains York boss.
Tom A Shaw Thing?
Nottingham-born Tom Shaw is a new name on the block and 3/1 to land the Notts County job.
Shaw is assistant head coach to Michael Skubala at Lincoln where he had a one-month spell as interim manager when Mark Kennedy and Jacob Butterfield left the club in October 2023.
Despite spending most of his playing career in what is now known as the National League, Shaw has an excellent reputation for nurturing young players from his time as a PDP coach at Lincoln.
Alves Remains In Top Four
Joao Alves has been with Notts County in various roles for more than four years, but could he finally get his chance as head coach?
Having started as a tactical analyst, the Portuguese was appointed assistant in July 2022 but was promoted to first-team coach when Maynard moved from Wealdstone at the start of the year.
Obviously, Alves lacks experience of being a head coach, but he knows the club inside out and could prove a popular pick with fans.
The club’s owners don’t need to search too far to make an appointment, but their statement suggests they may be looking at someone other than Alves, whose odds have nevertheless been cut from 5/1 to 3/1 to get the job.
Richardson In Contention Despite Drop
Leam Richardson's last managerial position at Rotherham was probably one to forget, sacked after winning just two of his 24 games in charge of the Championship club.
However, it should not be forgotten how well he performed at Wigan, both as an assistant to Paul Cook and then as a manager.
The pair guided the club into the Championship in the 2017/18 season and after a troubled nine months which saw the club fall into administration, Richardson was placed in charge following the departures of Cook and his successor John Sheridan.
Richardson was appointed manager in April 2021 with just three League One games remaining, avoiding relegation and then remarkably winning the title in the following season.
He was sacked just 16 days after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Latics and 13 months later he joined Rotherham.
It's been more than a year since Richardson was last in work and although he was the 2/5 favourite last week to be appointed Notts County manager, his odds have drifted to 3/1 on betting apps.
Williams Odds Slashed
One of the intriguing possibilities is a romantic return to the club for Luke Williams, who led Notts County into the Football League via the play-offs two years ago.
The 44-year-old former Swindon boss left Meadow Lane to rejoin Swansea, where he had previously been assistant to Russell Martin.
After 13 months in south Wales, Williams was sacked following a run of seven defeats in nine Championship games.
The fans would welcome back Williams with open arms and his his odds have been cut dramatically from 20/1 to 5/1 in recent days.
Former Trotters Chief Evatt Drifts
The odds on ex-Bolton boss Ian Evatt filling the Magpies vacancy have ranged between 3/1 and 33/1 in the last week, but his price now stands at 7/1.
Evatt left the Trotters by mutual consent in January because he felt he needed a break, but his batteries have since been recharged and he is now looking for the "right option" to continue his career.
The former Blackpool and Chesterfield player earned promotion with Barrow in the National League and then Bolton in League Two.
He led the Lancastrians to the League One play-offs in back-to-back seasons, losing in the final to Oxford in the 2023/24 campaign.
Evatt may feel he deserves more than to be at the helm of a League Two team, but the Magpies are an historic club with ambitious owners.
Wilshere A Dark Horse
Elsewhere, former Arsenal, West Ham and Bournemouth midfielder Jack Wilshere is 14/1 to land the job.
Wilshere oversaw Norwich's final two games of the season and is keen to become a head coach.
Anthony Limbrick is another new name in the frame at 11/1 and he is now available following his dismissal by Hartlepool this week, just four months into his reign.
The 42-year-old Australian had previous spells with Woking, The New Saints and Manchester 62, a team based in Gibraltar.
